This Post is Bananas! B A N A N A S
Freckled bananas are the best. They are the perfect texture, have lots of natural sugar, and pair wonderfully with peanut butter. The only flaw? When you have 5 of these perfectly freckled bananas that you know you won’t be able to eat before they are brown. That’s when I turn to the freezer!
I’ve said this in other posts, but I love adding frozen bananas to my smoothies. It helps make the consistency thicker and eliminates my desire to add yogurt (Small changes to cut out dairy!!). I made the rookie mistake of freezing the banana in its peel the first time I did this. Not that there’s anything wrong with that- it just makes the peeling process harder.
After a few trial and errors with containers, I started using Stasher bags to store my pre-smoothie ’nanners! They are freezer friendly, easy to clean, and keep the bananas from being rock hard when you take them out. I feared I’d have to dig my way through the bag to get some pieces out to use, but that hasn’t been the case!
I only have 2 Stasher bags as of right now, but even that makes a huge difference! My partner and I haven’t bought or needed plastic snack bags in 3 months. 3 months! Even I was surprised to learn that about us. I think knowing we have the Stasher bags deters us from wanting to use the plastic ones. We’ve gotten to a point where if its between using a plastic snack bag or oversized Tupperware, we always choose the Tupperware. I’m proud of this! It can be difficult to live with someone who is not as enthusiastic about being environmentally conscious, but we‘ve found success in the little things. Will my partner use plastic snack bags again in his lifetime? I’m sure he will! However, we both celebrate the success of it not being our first choice anymore and getting out of the mindset that it’s our only option.
You can find the Stasher bags in the “Links” section of my site!
